  Animal Concern is a registered charity operating throughout Cumbria with three branches located in Millom, West Cumbria and North Lakes .

  A committee of Trustees elected from the branches is responsible for the overall management of the charity but the individual branches assume responsibility for local rescue, homing and fund -raising activities.

  The objectives of the Organisation shall be to promote kindness and to suppress cruelty to animals and to attend generally to the welfare of all animals in need of care and protection. In furtherance of the above objects the Organisation shall have power:
(i) to help neglected or unwanted animals and to arrange for the provision of good homes for them;
(ii) to release an animal to an approved home only, to maintain an interest in its welfare and to take it back into the care of the Charity if the owner is unable to care for it in a proper manner;
(iii) to refrain from selling any animal and from destroying an animal except on the advice of a veterinary surgeon;
(iv) to co-operate with other organisations concerned with the welfare of animals;
(v) to do all such other things as are necessary to achieve these objects.

  Any person who supports the objectives of the Organisation shall be eligible to apply to join on payment of an annual subscription. The fees shall be reviewed annually by the elected committee of the organisation, currently £8 / annum.

  The day-to-day work of the Organisation is carried out essentially by volunteers. They are on call to respond where animals need help or where people need help to care for their animals.
 Animal Concern relies for its finances on membership subscriptions, gifts, legacies, voluntary contributions for animals rehomed and fund-raising activities by supporters. Each year the charity's costs for feed and veterinary treatment amount to over £200,000 out of a total spend of £230,000. Only about 3% of our income is spent on administration and this includes the cost of advertising in newspapers for homes for animals. We are a registered charity and as such our finances are inspected by a qualified accountant and are open to public scrutiny. Details can be provided on request or can be viewed by searching our charity number 1161354 on www.charity-commission.gov.uk

  If you would like to become a member of Animal Concern then you can join online for a fee of £8. Payments via Paypal or any credit/debit card.
